This unusual item was in very poor condition and was falling apart. The wooden frame was in pieces and only held together by the rexine cover.  The lock was missing with the lock cavity damaged. The lining had been replaced at some stage with wrapping paper and the rexine cover was ripped, hanging off in places and damaged.

The case was consolidated and the wooden frame glued up. The lock cavity was carefully rebuilt and a replacement lock fitted. The card lining panels had to be carefully removed, cleaned and then covered with new marbled paper and then reinstated.  The loose pieces of rexine were glued down and missing pieces were repaired with some pieces obtained as a sample from a supplier. The base was then covered in a baize.
